Class 423 '4 VEP' 3417 is actually a 4-car Electric Multiple Unit, built by British Rail Engineering Ltd at York in 1967, which when in service would have been found on the Southern Region's electrified lines. With no elecrification here, it is being hauled, on this occasion, by the Class 69.
