Taken from the same spot as the last photo, but swinging left to look down Shillbank Lane. In the bottom of the dip used to be a railway bridge over the road, with Northorpe Lower Station built on the bridge. The former Station Hotel and the Fish & Chip shop we saw earlier are the far side of the former railway line. The original Shillbank Lane is to the right, with my maternal grandmother’s house towards the right edge of the picture with the white window sills. The new road to the left was built to go under the railway line when the increase in traffic made the level crossing on the old road impractical.
